Music is the Universal Language

Author: Collin Kurre, 9th Grade 2005

Music has been around nearly as long as mankind, and has developed accordingly to become a universal language. Nearly every culture has its own form and interpretation of music. From religious hymns to ceremonial dances, music has become an embedded part of many rituals around the world. Along with this cultural factor, music is also a form of entertainment. Parties, dances, and other gatherings would not be as popular as they are today if there was never any music involved, and in some cases, the music can make or break the gathering. The last important factor of music is that it offers an outlet for one’s feelings. Certain genres of music, such as rock or rap, would not have near as much influence as they do if the artists had not put emotion into the songs. Whether it be ‘angry’ or ‘motivational’, music can deeply affect one’s mood and feelings. In conclusion, music is important to the individual, as well as the community because of how it reaches out to people on so many different levels, and truly is a global link between humanity.
